Crone Lumber Company was founded in 1972. A fire destroyed the sawmill in 1977, but it was rebuilt and back in full production by early 1978. In 2002, a major manufacturing upgrade included a new band mill with computer scan capabilities. We have 175,000 Bft dry kiln capacity on site and dry storage capacity of 750,000 bft.
Spring of 2003 we experienced a fire that completely destroyed our manufacturing facility. While awaiting the completion of the "rebuild" phase of our operations, we continued to serve our customers.
Construction was completed and we resumed our operations as of November 2003. To all our loyal customers, we extend our heartfelt thanks for your continued business and support!
We are a forest management company, purchasing a large percentage of our own timber.
FOREST MANAGEMENT and PROCUREMENT
We employ three full-time forest managers, including our founder and owner, Harmon Crone, who heads our forest management team of LeeRoy Patton and Joe Crone. Joe is a third generation Crone Lumber "sawmiller." Joe attended NHLA lumber grading classes and now is our Log Inspector and procurement manager. We take pride in our work in the woods, striving for quality timber management by selective harvest methods. Best Management Practices are employed during actual harvesting. This enables us to preserve our nationís greatest renewable natural resource for centuries to come.
QUALITY CONTROL Through the hard work of our foresters to maintain the quality of our timber, we are able to produce the highest quality hardwood lumber available. Our lumber has a broad variety of uses, from moldings and cabinetry to furniture and pallet stock.
Our quality control team is headed up by our chief inspector Jon Hamilton. John Crone and Randy Musgrave round out our lumber inspection team. John Crone is a third generation "sawmiller"; Jon Hamilton is a 2002 graduate of the NHLA grading school in Memphis; and Randy Musgrave completed a lumber grading course hosted at the IHLA office in Indianapolis, Indiana.
These quality conscious teams, in turn," ensure the best lumber production available, " says Sales Manager Steve Crone. Our steady relationship of more than 25 years with our customers shows that our quality product and concern for our customers is a definite asset.
From our Central Southern Indiana location we are able to ship to both the East and West Costs. We also export to Europe, Asia, Mexico, and Canada.
Through our steady growth and commitment to our environment and community we hope to serve our customers and the public for generations to come.
